About half of pregnant women who contract a primary infection spread the disease to their fetus. When the CMV IgG virus is acquired in-utero, the infection may cause mental retardation, blindness, and/or deafness.

The enzyme conjugate catalytic reaction is stopped at a specific time. The intensity of the color generated is proportional to the amount of IgG specific antibody in the sample.
